In August 2024, we asked local residents for their views on the future of the Mountney Close play area. Everyone who responded said they wanted a play area to remain in the area, highlighting how important it is to local children and families.
Following this feedback, we have explored options for investing in and improving the play area.
The existing play area is located at the far end of Mountney Close and is now in need of significant investment. While it would be possible to replace the current equipment in its existing location, substantial works would also be required to improve access to the site.
As part of this review, we have identified a potential alternative location nearby on Heybridge Road. Relocating the play area could provide an opportunity to create a larger, more open and accessible space, with a wider range of inclusive play equipment and improved access for all users.

This consultation is the next stage in the process and seeks your views on the available options before any decisions are made.
We would like to understand:
Whether you would prefer the play area to remain in its current location or be relocated to the proposed alternative location.
Which factors are most important to you when considering the future location of the play area.
Which of the proposed play area designs you would prefer the Council to take forward.
